After some months of working through several designs and various
combinations of wings, fuselage and
boom designs, Alan Cardash has come up with what we believe is the
best flying ARF Jet Trainer you can
buy!
The kit goes together quickly and easily as it is now an ARF. The reward
for your three or four evenings building is a good looking, fully aerobatic
130mph jet trainer which will slow down like a big trainer for easy, short
landings. It flies even slower with the flaps, ideal for small field flying,
even off bumpy grass.
The INTRO is designed for the new generation of small 12 to 18 lb
turbines such as the JetCat P60, or any light 12 to 15 lb turbine, which
will give more than adequate performance with good verticals and stunning
aerobatic potential. Every manoeuvre that you know how to fly is possible
with this new jet, Loops, snaps, spins, inverted and all combinations of
your favorite tricks. When it comes down to landing, you'll not believe the
sweet, slow approaches and easy flare out.
Volkan Dil from Al's Hobbies managed to fit a JetCat P80 with a massive
20lb of thrust in this airframe. It was a tight fit, but after some trimming
the P80 felt like it was designed for this plane! Even though the P80 is a
heavier engine Volkan managed to balance the plane without any additional
lead. Ali Machinchy test flew the plane and he said that the plane flys like
any other boomerang! The P80 also gives a larger range of aircraft for your
next jet, including a lot of the Skymaster Kits.
Fixed landing gear is supplied with the mounts for retracts already in
place, giving you the option. A 2 litre plastic compact tank can be fitted
in the generous tank bay. The balsa sheeted super light wings and tail are
beautifully covered in Profilm. To aid your final trimming, some extra
Profilm in colours to match is supplied in each kit.

The ELAN is capable of just about any manoeuvre possible with a jet. It
lives up to the Boomerang Jets ethos of an easy to build, fly and maintain
jet with outstanding flying and aerobatic ability. Take off even on grass is
from about 40 feet and landing similarly short in the hands of a competent
pilot.
Most of our testing & development was done from our 80 yard grass runway
ensuring the Elan had to have those characteristics typical of Boomerang
models. Steady and solid in slow flight at around 20 mph. it also has
exhibited a remarkable top speed over 190 mph. It has been flown with
turbines from 14lbs upwards and extensively stress tested in all flight
conditions. The Elan has caused a stir everywhere it has been demonstrated.

Designer of the Boomerang Alan Cardash
First designed by Alan Cardash in 2001, the original design for the
Boomerang jet was to be a slower flying model than the currently available
jet trainers, yet large enough to be easily seen in the air. It had to take
off and land from a rough grass runway, and it had to be fun to fly.

From basic drawings to finished design, test flights and major flying
events throughout the world, Boomerang has shown that this jet is capable of
everything he set out to achieve.
The result has by far exceeded the original concept. This twin boom
model, eight feet long with an eight feet wing span, is quite exceptional.
The construction is conventional balsa, ply and light ply, with obeche
skinned wings, and although it’s big, it disassembles easily to fit into a
car. In flight, it feels like a cross between a trainer and a pattern plane.
Boomerang, the first jet trainer that can be powered by any 12 to 27lb
thrust turbine. The prototype used a JetCat P80 and, later, a JetCat P120,
Many owners use even more power but it can take off - and fly beautifully
with a JetCat P60, or similar small turbine.
Capable of advanced aerobatics - including spins, snap rolls, knife-edge
flight, tumbles, airborne motor shutdown and restart (with an auto-start
turbine) - this aircraft has a slow speed performance that has to be seen to
be believe and a fair turn of speed when flat out.
Later versions were
fitted with retracts and brakes, of course.
At the British Nationals in 2002, Boomerang won the prestigious Windsock
Trophy Shield for the best flight of the day on the public display line. And
at Florida Jets 2002, it won yet another exceptional performance award. Ali
Machinchy, the outstanding UK pilot, flew it on both occasions.
Now the big version of Boomerang has taken a big step forward in kit
terms. A complete redesign. The new ARF kit is totally new in every respect
except for the amazing flying characteristics, which have always the most
important aspect of every Boomerang design.

Boomerang XL

Boomerang XL £880

25ib - 28ib
Turbine Thrust 20ib - 30ib
from
Al's Hobbies
So far the XL flight testing has had everybody absolutely stunned. The speed
range is just at the point of being hard to believe. Fast as h*** and yet
able to fly so slow you won't believe it will stay up there. With a totally
new design approach, for 18 to 30 lbs thrust turbines, the XL retains the
slow flight and short take
off and landing ability of the old Boomerang, but you'll be surprised at the
higher top speed of the new clean, low drag design. At 94" span, the
estimated top speed is 175 to 180 MPH with a 25 to 30 lb thrust turbine.
Using optional crow braking some of the tricks an experienced flyer can do
with the XL have never been possible with a jet before now. Knife edge
flight, snaps and spins, (upright or inverted, of course) and hovering in a
breeze etc. etc. At the same time it is so easy to fly that it is an ideal
jet trainer!
The XL is a quick plane to assemble at the flying field. It also breaks
down easily and fast to go in your car. Construction is unusual in that the
fuselage and booms are fibreglass, but to keep the weight down to achieve
the staggering aerobatic performance the wings and tail plane (stab.)
surfaces are built up with an attractive spray painted finish all round. Two
carbon fibre wing spars and use of carbon fibre in the built up structures
gives massive strength, but the bare airframe weight is only 7.7Kgs. (17
lbs.) giving an all up dry weight of around 28 lbs. depending on the
Turbine/Radio & servos/Retracts installation used. With the big wing area,
the wing loading is between 2.1 & 2.4lbs per square foot, which helps to
explain the performance. As with all Boomerang designs, there is complete
access to the entire fuselage interior from the nose to the turbine via the
virtually full length top hatch, so it is easy to carry out any maintenance
required.
After extensive flight testing and revising details, Alan Cardash and
Al's Hobbies believe that it actually does live up to the claim that it can
out fly any other aerobatic jet currently on the market. The advertising
shots and copy are not yet ready, but so many customers have asked about the
XL since it has been seen around a few UK and European meetings that we are
putting a few photos, notes and videos here to show the hype was all true!
There are two colour schemes available:
